Bespoke Design IdeasHotel Design One Aldwych Hotel, London

RMD worked with the design team at Fox Linton Associates on the award-winning No.1 Aldwych.

Project managed by the Architects Jestico & Whiles and designed by the Fox Linton Associates team led by Mary Fox Linton, RMD assisted with the design of the public areas and accommodation.

One of the first hotels to define the trend of lobby culture, the brief was to create a quietly sophisticated interior that paid homage to the building’s past and provided its guests with originality and a cool, uncluttered environment.

Working with world-renowned hotelier Gordon Campbell Grey, the design team was tasked with creating a blank canvas for the owner’s private eclectic art collection.

A palette of limestone, dark stained wood, polished stainless steel and glass highlighted with dusky hued silks formed a crisp architectural backdrop for the dramatic art and sculptures.

A high percentage of the furniture was unique and bespoke designed with a playful twist through exaggeration of proportion and symmetry.

The hotel opened in 2002 and went on to win numerous international design awards. It has become a design classic marking the arrival of the genre for luxury minimalism in hotel design.
